Koru Member benefits include:
Various other benefits associated with your participation in the Koru Programme, as set out in these Terms.
We will change and update the Koru Member benefits from time to time. Visit the Koru section of our website for information about our current Koru Member benefits including eligibility criteria and mechanics.
Koru Members may earn Airpoints and Status Points on Qualifying Flights, Qualifying Purchases and through Direct Earn Financial Products.
In order to earn Airpoints and Status Points automatically, you must quote your Koru number (and if requested present your Koru Card) at the time of making a booking for a Qualifying Flight, making a Qualifying Purchase or at the time of applying for a Direct Earn Financial Product.
You cannot earn Airpoints or Status Points on Rewards you have redeemed using Airpoints. You cannot transfer your Airpoints or Status Points to another airline's frequent flyer programme.
In the event that Airpoints and/or Status Points have been accrued to your Account for travel that you also used to gain frequent flyer or loyalty benefits under another Airline's loyalty or frequent flyer programme, we will remove the relevant Airpoints and Status Points from your Account.
When you earn Airpoints and Status Points on Qualifying Flights, Qualifying Purchases, and through Direct Earn Financial Products, your Airpoints and Status Points should appear on the "My Balance" page of your online Air NZ Account within three months of the Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Purchase being made or within three months of the Airpoints being earned through Direct Earn Financial Products.
You may make a claim for missing Airpoints or Status Points:
Your claim must be received by Air NZ within 6 months of the following:
You may submit your claim for missing Airpoints or Status Points online, through the "Claim missing Airpoints" function of your online Air NZ Account. Alternatively, you may submit your claim to the Air NZ Contact Centre.
You must provide the following evidence as part of your claim:
If you wish to make a claim for missing Airpoints or Status Points earned through a Direct Earn Financial Product, submit your claim to your Direct Earn Financial Product provider within 6 months of the date you earned the missing Airpoints or Status Points, or such sooner time as is required by your Direct Earn Financial Product terms and conditions.
In the case of Status Points earned on a Qualifying Flight as a benefit of your Direct Earn Financial Product, you must still be a Nominated Earner of the Direct Earn Financial Product the claim is for (and the Direct Earn Financial Product account must be open), at the time that a claim is made for missing Status Points to be eligible for the missing Status Points.
To earn Airpoints and Status Points for travel on a Qualifying Flight, you must be the person named on the Ticket and you must have flown on the Flight. In the case of Status Points earned on a Qualifying Flight as a benefit of your Direct Earn Financial Product, you must be the Nominated Earner of the Direct Earn Financial Product at the time you fly on the Qualifying Flight to be eligible to earn the Status Points.
The amount of Airpoints and Status Points that can be earned from travel on Qualifying Flights will vary depending on whether the Flight is an Air NZ Operated Flight or a Partner Airline Flight, the Airpoints and Status Points earning rates for the relevant Partner Airline, your booking class, the product type purchased, and the date of travel. If you hold a Direct Earn Financial Product, the terms and conditions applicable to your Direct Earn Financial Product may also affect the number of Status Points that you are eligible to earn on Qualifying Flights.
We may vary the Airpoints and Status Points earning rates from time to time, acting reasonably.
To estimate the number of Airpoints and Status Points you could earn on a Qualifying Flight, refer to the Koru Look Up Table at www.airnzpoints.co.nz.
12.1 Air New Zealand operated flights
Travel booked in booking classes N, X, I and R on Air NZ Operated Flights do not earn Airpoints or Status Points. Travel booked in booking class F does not earn Airpoints but does earn Status Points.
Infant Tickets do not earn Airpoints or Status Points.
Travel booked and paid for using Airpoints or another airline's frequent flyer points or loyalty programme points do not earn Airpoints or Status Points.
Airpoints and Status Points will be calculated per sector of your booking and will reflect the Booking Class you travel in for each Sector in the booking.
12.2. Partner Airline flights
You can earn Airpoints and Status Points on Partner Airline Flights provided the travel is booked in a booking class that the Partner Airline has determined is eligible to earn Airpoints and Status Points. See the Koru Look Up Table to estimate the Airpoints and Status Points you could earn on Partner Airline Flights. See Earning on flights for further information, and Star Alliance for earning on Alliance flights.
Status Points can be earned on some Partner Airline Flights but not all. See our Status Points information on our website for up-to-date information on which Partner Airline Flights can earn Status Points.
Booking class eligibility, and Airpoints and Status Points earning rates may be changed from time to time without prior notice. However we will always honour the Airpoints earning rates published as at the date of travel on a Qualifying Flight.
Airpoints may not be earned on staff, discount, free, net wholesale, certain corporate or travel industry rates.
You may earn Airpoints by making Qualifying Purchases with Air NZ and Participating Retailers.
We will vary the range and type of Qualifying Purchases and Participating Retailers from time to time.
Where a Qualifying Purchase includes a booking or receipt addressed to a named individual, you must be the person named in the booking or receipt. If the Qualifying Purchase is for car hire, you must have actually hired the car yourself.
The amount of Airpoints you can earn on Qualifying Purchases will vary depending on the earning rates applicable to the relevant Participating Retailer, the type of purchase made, the purchase price and the date of the purchase. Check to earn rate details with the relevant Participating Retailer.
Not all purchases made with a Participating Retailer will be Qualifying Purchases. Participating Retailers may specify which purchases will be Qualifying Purchases and eligible for Airpoints. Please check with the Participating Retailer before you make your purchase to confirm if the purchase is a Qualifying Purchase and will earn you Airpoints.
All Qualifying Purchases made with a Participating Retailer will be subject to the Participating Retailer's terms and conditions.
We will update your Airpoints balance with the Airpoints you have earned through Qualifying Purchases only after the relevant Participating Retailer has informed us of the Qualifying Purchase. This may be up to 12 weeks from the date of your Qualifying Purchase.
Your Airpoints will remain valid for four years from the date they were accrued to your Account. Following four years from accrual, the Airpoints will expire and be removed from your Account on the anniversary of the day you joined the Koru Programme.
You may use your Airpoints to redeem Rewards.
We will change and update the range of Rewards available from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Rewards.
The following requirements apply to all Rewards:
You may use your Airpoints to redeem Flight Rewards. These include travel on most Air NZ Operated Flights and Partner Airline Flights, subject to availability.
We will determine the redemption rate by which you can use your Airpoints to redeem Flight Rewards and we may change this rate from time to time, acting reasonably. This rate will change depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to whether your Flight is an Air NZ Operated Flight or a Partner Airline Flight, the booking class, time of travel, load factors, and whether it is a domestic or international Journey.
Flight Rewards are not available for travel industry rebated Tickets or group Tickets.
In the event of a flight delay, we reserve the right to postpone your Reward Travel dates at our sole discretion, acting reasonably, if we provide you with at least 24 hours' notice. If we do this we will make alternative Reward Travel arrangements for you.
If your Reward Travel involves travel on a Partner Airline, you must comply with that airline's terms and conditions, applicable fare rules and conditions of carriage. Air NZ is not responsible for your travel on Partner Airlines and the provision of Flight Rewards to you by Partner Airlines. Partner Airline Flights must be requested at least 3 business days prior to the day of departure.
Flight Reward Tickets are subject to applicable Fare Rules and Conditions of Carriage. See the Fare Rules for your Ticket to determine if you are entitled to change or cancel your Ticket and to determine the applicable change fees, cancellation fees, fare upgrade costs and service fees. Any such fees must be paid in Cash. Some Flight Reward Tickets may not permit changes or cancellations, check the Fare Rules before booking.
If your Flight Reward Ticket is for a Journey that commences in New Zealand and is purely a domestic Journey (subject to a domestic Ticket with no international sectors) you may use your Airpoints to pay the taxes and surcharges included in your fare. If your Journey does not commence in New Zealand and or includes international sectors, you cannot use your Airpoints to pay any taxes, levies or surcharges associated with your Flight booking.
The amount of Airpoints needed to redeem a Flight Reward Ticket with a Partner Airline may differ from the Cash price offered by Partner Airlines for the purchase of similar products or services, outside of the Koru Programme.
16.1. Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fares
Koru Black, Koru Platinum, Koru Gold, Koru Silver, and Koru Club Members may use their Airpoints to redeem Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fare in Business Premier Class on Air NZ Operated Flights.
Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fares are subject to strictly limited availability and may only be booked in limited booking classes. Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fares are not available on all routes or all Flights.
16.2. Upgrades
As a Koru Member you may choose to use your Airpoints to redeem an Upgrade when travelling on an Air NZ Operated Flight with an Air NZ Ticket. You may also use your Airpoints to redeem a Star Alliance Upgrade when travelling on a Star Alliance Partner Airline in limited Star Alliance booking classes and subject to relevant Star Alliance partner booking terms.
We will change the type of Upgrades that are available to Koru Members from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Upgrade options.
To make an an Upgrade request, you must have a confirmed Flight booking. Each Upgrade request is for a single oneway Sector, not for a whole Journey.
When considering your Upgrade request, we will take into account a number of factors including: seat availability, aircraft capacity control and catering. Your Upgrade request is not guaranteed. Sometimes, due to operational requirements, we may need to reverse an Upgrade, even if it has previously been confirmed. If we do not confirm an Upgrade request, or need to reverse a confirmed Upgrade, we will refund the applicable Airpoints to your Account, or credit the Recognition Upgrade back to your Account (unless expired), as applicable.
Upgrades are not available on all Air NZ operated and Star Alliance operated Flights. For example, Upgrades cannot be requested for travel industry fares, prize and promotional Tickets, grabaseat™ greenlight fares and Flights booked in certain discounted or low cost booking classes, including F class.
If you use an Upgrade to upgrade your Service Class on a Journey departing from London, you will be required to pay in Cash the additional Air Passenger Duty that will apply to your Journey.
You will earn Airpoints and Status Points on your Qualifying Flight according to the earn rate of the original fare purchased, prior to the Upgrade being requested.
If your Upgrade request is confirmed by Air NZ, and you subsequently decide to cancel the Upgrade but still wish to travel on the same Flight, your request will be subject to the original Ticketed Booking Class being available. Fees and fare conditions of the new booking will apply.
If you hold Koru Black, Koru Platinum, Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status, you will receive certain Recognition Upgrades when you qualify or re-qualify for your Tier Status for use on Air NZ Operated Flights. Recognition Upgrades are not available if you hold Gifted Koru Platinum, Gifted Koru Gold or Gifted Koru Silver Tier Status. Recognition Upgrades may be requested within 12 months of the day you become eligible or re-eligible for your Koru Black, Koru Platinum, Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status. If you move up a Tier Status level at any time during your Membership Year, any unused Recognition Upgrades will be expired from your Account and will be replaced with new Recognition Upgrades applicable to your new Tier Status. If you make a travel booking with a Recognition Upgrade and later wish to change your travel arrangements, your Recognition Upgrade will be deemed to have expired if (a) at the date of changing your travel arrangements, you no longer hold the applicable Tier Status that enabled you to earn the Recognition Upgrade; or (b) if the date of travel is in a new Membership Year.
You may not combine Recognition Upgrades, Upgrade Request Using Airpoints or a OneUp Upgrade to move multiple cabin classes for any single sector of your flight. The exception is, you can combine two long-haul Recognition Upgrades to request an upgrade from Economy to Business Premier on one sector. These must be applied at the same time from the same member's account and from the same membership year.
If you are travelling with children aged between 2 and 12 years old, any Upgrade request you make must also include a corresponding Upgrade request for the children travelling with you.
16.3 Other Upgrades
If you purchase a OneUp Upgrade, or an Airport Upgrade at check-in, you will earn Airpoints and Status Points on your Qualifying Flight according to the earn rate of the original fare purchased, prior to the OneUp or Airport Upgrade being purchased.
You may use your Airpoints to redeem a range of Non-Flight Rewards.
A list of current Non-Flight Rewards is available at "Spending Airpoints ™" page.
The redemption rates offered through the Koru Programme for Non-Flight Rewards may differ from the Cash prices offered by Koru Partners for the purchase of similar products or services, outside of the Koru Programme. There is no relationship between the Cash price offered by a Non-Airline Partner and the redemption rates offered through the Koru Programme for Non-Flight Rewards (e.g. car rentals hire).
17.1. Car Rental Rewards
You may use your Airpoints to redeem certain Car Rental Rewards that we may offer from time to time, subject to booking restrictions and availability.
Requests made via the Air NZ Contact Centre for Car Rental Rewards must be made at least one business day prior to the date of the car hire pick up.
You may register any person in your Household as a "Giftee" on your Gifting Register, provided that the person resides in the same Household as you and has the same residential address.
You can register a person as a "Giftee" through the "Gifting Register" function, after you have signed in to your online Air NZ Account. Alternatively, you may do so by contacting the Air NZ Contact Centre.
We will charge a fee for adding a person as a Giftee on your Gifting Register if they are not a Koru Member. When you register a Giftee, you must declare if the Giftee resides in the same Household as you.
We reserve the right to ask you to provide us with written evidence to confirm that a Giftee resides in the same Household as you. An example of satisfactory written evidence is a utilities bill issued within the last 3 months. You must tell us promptly if any Giftee on your Gifting Register stops residing in the same Household as you.
You may remove a Giftee from your Gifting Register at any time.
You may gift Rewards to a Giftee on your Gifting Register, provided that you redeem and gift the whole of the Reward to the Giftee. It is not possible to redeem and gift part of a Reward.
Giftees and other Koru Members cannot make any top-ups or transfers of Cash or Airpoints to help cover any shortfall if you have insufficient Airpoints to redeem and gift the whole of a Reward.
We will monitor your Gifting Register to ensure that you are using your Gifting Register in compliance with these Terms.
18.1. Gifting Rewards for Koru Gold, Koru Platinum and Koru Black
Koru Members with Koru Gold or Gifted Koru Gold Tier Status may nominate up to 2 people as their Giftees, who do not need to reside in the same Household as the Koru Member.

Koru Members with Koru Platinum Tier Status may nominate up to 4 people as their Giftee, who do not need to live in the same Household as the Koru Member.
Koru Members with Koru Platinum Tier Status may gift Rewards, Recognition Upgrades and Upgrade Requests Using Airpoints to their Giftees.
Please refer to the Air NZ website for details and restrictions on gifting Rewards by Koru Gold, Koru Platinum and Koru Black Members.
Koru Members earn Status Points on certain Qualifying Flights and on some Direct Earn Financial Products. Koru Members may not share or transfer their Status Points to any other person.
We may vary the Status Points earning rates from time to time, acting reasonably.
Status Points are used to determine if a Koru Member qualifies for Koru Black, Koru Platinum, Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status. You will qualify for Koru Black, Koru Platinum Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status if you meet our Tier Status requirements published on our website. We may vary the requirements for achieving Tier Status from time to time, acting reasonably. If we do so we will publish the new requirements on our website and we will also give you two months advance notice of any material changes to these requirements.
Koru Members with Koru Black, Koru Platinum Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status are entitled to certain Frequent Flyer Benefits, which we may vary from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Frequent Flyer Benefits.
Koru Black, Koru Platinum Koru Gold or Koru Silver Tier Status will be valid for a 12 month period starting from the date your Tier Status becomes effective. However if during the 12 month period, you qualify for a higher Tier Status, we will promptly change your Tier Status to the higher Tier Status. Your new higher Tier Status will then be valid for 12 months. The lower Tier Status Benefits will expire immediately from your Account and the higher Tier Status Benefits applied.
We will review your eligibility for qualification or re-qualification of Tier Status at the end of every 12 month qualification / re-qualification period at which time any existing benefits will be expired and be replaced with any benefits, where applicable, of your new membership status.
If you breach any of these Terms, we reserve the right to suspend your Tier Status for a period of time that we consider reasonable without any compensation to you.

If you join a Shairpoints Account, your Airpoints may be used to redeem Rewards by the Owner or other Spenders of the Shairpoints Account without any notice to you.
Shairpoints Accounts are subject to the following membership requirements:
An Owner may nominate one or more of the members of their Shairpoints Account to be "Spenders". The remaining members of the Shairpoints Account will be "Non-Spenders".
The Owner may change the status of any member of their Shairpoints Account from Spender to Non-Spender and vice versa at any time.
The Owner and the Spenders may use all Airpoints in the Shairpoints Account to redeem Rewards. A Koru Member's Airpoints Advance is not included in the Airpoints in the Shairpoints Account and therefore cannot be redeemed by other Spenders.
If an invitee accepts an invitation to join an Owner's Shairpoints Account:

Air NZ has no obligation to make any enquiries about activities in your Account if the activities are conducted by another Member or the Owner of your Shairpoints Account.
The Airpoints in the Shairpoints Account that are the oldest will be redeemed first, irrespective of whether any of the Shairpoints Account members are eligible for non-expiry of Airpoints. If one or more Shairpoints Account members have Airpoints in their Accounts with the same age and some of those Airpoints are being redeemed, Airpoints will be deducted evenly from the applicable Shairpoints Account members' Accounts. Airpoints available through an Airpoints Advance will only be available to the member who holds the Airpoints Advance.

We may suspend your Shairpoints Account if we reasonably believe that the Shairpoints Account has been used in breach of the Terms or if we reasonably suspect that there has been any actual or attempted fraudulent activity in respect of the Shairpoints Account.

If the Nominated Earner of a Direct Earn Financial Product joint account dies, 100% of the Airpoints accrued from that person's joint account (but not any Airpoints earned by any other means), that have not yet been redeemed, may be transferred from the Nominated Earner's Koru Account to the other joint account holder's Koru Account, if:
In the case of either separation or divorce, 50% of the Airpoints earned from a joint Direct Earn Financial Product joint account, and which have not yet been redeemed, may be transferred from one joint account holder's Koru Account to the other joint account holder's Koru Account - as long as both Koru Members provide Air NZ with their written authorisation for this transaction.
23.1. Airpoints Advance
An Airpoints Advance facility is available to eligible cardholders who are the Nominated Earners of certain Direct Earn Financial Products and may also be available, from time to time, to eligible account holders of select Participating Retailer accounts. Please check with the bank that has issued your Direct Earn Financial Product to confirm if you satisfy their "Nominated Earner" and other eligibility requirements for use of the Airpoints Advance facility.
The Airpoints Advance facility enables Nominated Earners of eligible Direct Earn Financial Products and account holders of select Participating Retailer accounts to overdraw Airpoints in their Airpoints Account, up to a specified limit, to enable them to redeem Rewards.
We reserve the right to amend or withdraw the Airpoints Advance facility at any stage.
Where a Member holds more than one Direct Earn Financial Product which entitles them to obtain an Airpoints Advance, the Member will only be entitled to an Airpoints Advance for the Direct Earn Financial Product which has the highest Airpoints Advance limit, and the Member will not be entitled to an Airpoints Advance entitlement for any of their other Direct Earn Financial Products.
The Member has 12 months from the date they cease to be the Nominated Earner of a Direct Earn Financial Product account; or the date that they cease to be the account holder of a select Participating Retailer account; or the date on which the Airpoints Advance is withdrawn (as applicable), to earn sufficient Airpoints to repay any outstanding Airpoints Advance. If the Member does not hold another Direct Earn Financial Product or select Participating Retailer account that entitles that Member to an Airpoints Advance, then the Member must repay the outstanding Airpoints Advance in its entirety. If the Member is entitled to Airpoints Advance under another Direct Earn Financial Product or select Participating Retailer account, the Member is only required to repay the difference between the amount withdrawn against that higher Airpoints Advance and the new Airpoints Advance limit ("Airpoints Deficit"). Members shall repay the Airpoints Deficit by earning or purchasing Airpoints in accordance with these Terms.
If the Member does not earn sufficient Airpoints to reverse the Airpoints Deficit, or otherwise repay the Airpoints deficit, within 12 months we may choose to close that Member's account. Air New Zealand may seek recovery of the Airpoints Deficit which may include sending the debt to a collection agency for recovery of any Airpoints deficit.
The Member will be liable for any resulting costs pursuant to these Terms in relation to the recovery of the monetary value of any Airpoints owed.
23.2. Non Expiry of Airpoints for Nominated Earners of Direct Earn Financial Products
Notwithstanding the Airpoints expiry provisions in paragraph 14, Airpoints earned by Nominated Earners of certain Direct Earn Financial Products will not expire for so long as the person remains the Nominated Earner for the applicable Direct Earn Financial Product account.
As soon as the Koru Member is no longer the Nominated Earner for a relevant Direct Earn Financial Product account, all of their unused Airpoints that were earned four or more years ago and would have otherwise expired under paragraph 14 will immediately expire and be removed from their Account.
Certain credit or charge cards permit card holders to convert their credit or charge card reward points into Airpoints, in accordance with the relevant credit or charge card terms and conditions. Where such cards permit conversion of rewards points into Airpoints, the terms and conditions of the relevant card issuer and the terms and conditions of the credit or charge card, apply to the conversion. Conversion of reward points into Airpoints is only available in some countries. Please contact your credit card issuer for full details including details on membership eligibility and transfer fees. Once credit or charge card reward points are converted into Airpoints, the transaction cannot be reversed (unless the reversal is to correct an error or to remove Airpoints for purchases that have been refunded).
When you convert credit or charge card reward points into Airpoints, your Airpoints should appear on the "My Balance" page of your online Air NZ Account within three months of the conversion being requested. If you wish to make a claim for missing Airpoints converted from credit or charge card reward points, submit your claim to the card issuer within 6 months of the date you converted the missing Airpoints, or such sooner time as is required by your credit or charge card terms and conditions.
