seatselect and OneUp
You can still use seatselect if your OneUp upgrade is confirmed before you arrive at the airport. You’ll be able to choose any available seat in the cabin area you’ve upgraded to.
You can also still submit a OneUp offer if you’ve already bought seatselect. If your offer is successful, you won't get a refund on your seatselect charges, but those charges get added to the value of your OneUp upgrade offer.
Seating options
Standard Seat
Flying on theworks or worksflexi fare to the Tasman or Islands, or a New Zealand domestic flexichange or flexirefund fare? Choosing a Standard Seat is included in your fare.
If you're travelling on a seat only or seat+bag fare on New Zealand domestic or if you're on a seat only fare on Tasman and Islands flights, you can select your seat in advance using paid seatselect.
If you're travelling on a long haul international flight, your fare may include a standard seat or you can purchase one in advance using paid seatselect.
If you are travelling on a long haul journey, you can access a Standard Seat free of charge, if available, when online check-in opens 24 hours before your flight.
You can change your seat to another seat of same or lesser value at any time.
If you don't select your seat in advance, your seat will be allocated to you at check-in.
See the fare rules pages for more information.
Preferred Seat
These seats are in preferred location on the aircraft and may also have extra legroom.
Exit Row Seat
Enjoy extra space in front to stretch out.
In case of emergency, you may need to activate the emergency exit. As a result, you must meet all applicable Civil Aviation (or other regulatory authority) regulatory and safety requirements and:
- Be over 15 years of age
- Have a good understanding of English
- Be prepared to follow any instructions from the crew
- Be physically able and willing to assist
- Have the mobility and capability required to perform emergency exit functions
- Strong enough and can safely open the exit door in the event of an emergency
If you book an exit row seat online, you need to confirm you meet these requirements. You may also be assessed during check-in, at the departure gate or after you board your flight.
Please don't be offended if we check your eligibility or ask you to move. The safety of everyone aboard the flight is our top priority.
Bassinet Seat
A limited number of seats with bassinets are available on our 777-300 and 787-9 aircraft. Not all aircraft have the same size bassinet.
There are two sizes of bassinets your baby will need to be able to safely fit inside:
- 69cm long and 31cm wide (27 x 12 inches)
- 67cm long and 35cm wide tapering to 15cm (26 x 13 inches, tapering to 5.9 inches)
- Both are designed for infants up to 11.8kg (26lb)
We recommend that you purchase your bassinet seat early. Look for the bassinet icon on the seat map. Bassinet seats are subject to availability. If you haven't secured a bassinet seat in advance, we'll do our best to allocate one when you check in if still available.
When the seatbelt sign is on, you'll need to take your infant out of the bassinet and secure them on your lap.
Neighbour free seat
A Neighbour free seat reserves the seat space next to you, so you can enjoy extra space when travelling in Economy on selected flights. This product is a paid seat select option and will only be provided to passengers named on the ticket.
The adjacent Neighbour free seat would be shared with the passenger on the other side. It does not allow you to sit across or lay across multiple seats and cannot be used for infant seating or for stowing items such as carry-on baggage or musical instruments.
