United is a founding member of the Star Alliance and has a rich history in aviation being established in 1926. In 2010 United Airlines and Continental commenced a merger to form United, to become one of the largest airlines in the world that provides the most comprehensive of global networks.

United Airlines is entering the New Zealand market in co-operation with Air New Zealand with the launch of non-stop services between Auckland and San Francisco, beginning on 1 July 2016.

Lounge access

Elite members may access the Air New Zealand International Lounge with 5 guests before departing on the United flight to San Francisco. Gold members may access our lounge with 1 guest prior to this service. With Star Alliance Gold access, Elite and Gold members may access any Star Alliance Business lounge prior to departing on an Air New Zealand or United service in San Francisco, with one guest.

Koru members and Elite Partners who have booked an Air New Zealand marketed flight (with an NZ flight number and ticket) operated by either Air New Zealand or United to San Francisco, may access the Air New Zealand International Lounge with one guest. When departing from San Francisco on a United flight (with a NZ flight number and ticket), Koru members and Elite Partners may access our Partner lounge at San Francisco airport.

Please note for Air New Zealand issued lounge eVouchers when travelling on United between Auckland and San Francisco: our lounge eVouchers are only accepted at Air New Zealand Lounges when travelling on Air New Zealand operated flights, with Air New Zealand flight numbers. They will not be accepted if travelling on a flight that is operated by United, or with a United Airlines (UA) flight number between Auckland and San Francisco.

Baggage allowance

If you are an Airpoints Gold or Elite member (with Star Alliance Gold status), you will receive an additional piece of checked luggage when travelling on United operated flights.

While Koru members and Elite Partners receive an additional piece when travelling on Air New Zealand operated flights (with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number), please note that if you’re connecting to a United flight, this allowance will not be recognised and excess baggage charges will apply.
