Flying with artificial limbs
Find out what you need to know before flying with an artificial limb or prosthesis.
Before you fly
All artificial limbs are accepted for carriage and use on Air New Zealand flights.
You can travel with your artificial limb and use it during your journey. If you’re bringing a spare artificial limb, cabin storage may be limited, so you may only be able to carry one spare limb as part of your cabin baggage.
Bringing spare artificial limbs
Additional artificial limbs may need to travel as checked baggage.
Longer items, such as legs, may not be able to be stored in the overhead locker. Please pack these items carefully in case they need to be checked in. If your artificial limb needs to be checked in, there will be no extra charge.
At airport security
The airport security team may ask to see a medical certificate for your prosthesis from your doctor or medical specialist.
We recommend carrying this certificate with you, so you can show it to the team if requested.
