Sustainability People | He tāngata

People | He tāngata
People are at the heart of everything we do. With our promise of manaaki, a te reo Māori term encompassing hospitality, kindness, and respect for others, we're committed to taking care further than any other airline.
Our people
We care for our people by keeping them safe, preparing for the future, and supporting all our teams to thrive.
We're committed to providing a safe, inclusive workplace – striving for diversity in leadership, being a talent incubator, and fostering a culture that delivers a highly engaged workforce. We were proud to be awarded New Zealand's most attractive employer in 2025 by Randstad for a third year running, reflecting the importance we place on culture, engagement and inclusivity. If you're interested in joining us, take a look at our careers site.
We track our progress against the targets we have set ourselves, including our safety performance, team engagement and wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion. Find out more in our 2026 Annual Report, our 2026 Gender Pay Report and our 2026 Workforce Profile as of 30 June 2026.
Our Mangōpare pilot cadetship is designed to help Air New Zealand continue to meet future demand for pilots by inspiring people from all backgrounds to pursue a career as a pilot. We fund most of the training costs, which helps reduce financial barriers and accelerate training.

Supporting our communities
We enrich the lives of our customers and are a positive part of the diverse communities we connect and serve.
To support the communities where we live, work and fly, we help create opportunities to support tourism, and we undertake a significant programme of regional marketing activity, including destination brand development, trade familiarisations, community sponsorship, and the Regional Event Sponsorship Programme.
From The Spectacle in Nelson to the Flavours of Plenty Festival in Tauranga, the events supported through the Programme encourage more travel to our regions, particularly during off-peak seasons, helping to support local economies and stimulate demand year-round.
We recognise te ao Māori and te reo Māori as especially important to Aotearoa New Zealand's identity. We collaborated with the Māori Language Commission to develop the 'Tohu Reo' pin, a language identifier pin that can be worn by fluent te reo Māori speakers at Air New Zealand. In addition, to support te reo Māori to fly, Air New Zealand, in partnership with NZ Māori Tourism, created the Kia Rere app.
The app, produced by Kiwa Digital, has a range of interactive features including audio learning and the ability to create a mihimihi. Kia Rere is available to download in the App Store and on Google Play. In 2025, to celebrate 50 years of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, we flew a special flight between Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Tāhuna Queenstown that was immersed in te reo Māori from check-in to touchdown.
Air New Zealand is also a proud member of The Valuable 500, a global movement uniting 500 of the world's most influential businesses to drive disability inclusion and accessibility.

Connecting New Zealand to the world
Air New Zealand plays a significant role in taking New Zealand businesses, products and services to the world. Global connectivity is critical to the success of many New Zealand businesses.
Our domestic and international network provides New Zealand businesses with access to key markets supporting a prosperous and growing New Zealand. We also incorporate many New Zealand products into our customer experience.
Air New Zealand Cargo is a crucial part of our offering and is essential to New Zealand's economy and high value export chain. Our networks give our exporters and importers access to 120 destinations, so New Zealand can sell to and import products from almost any point on the globe.
Responsible supply chain
We are responsible for our supply chain and promote positive impact and change.
Sustainable procurement is one of the most powerful levers to drive positive social and environmental impact in supply chains. We partner with more than 4000 suppliers across a range of goods and services—from aircraft, catering, cleaning, construction, digital, and security. Learn more about supplying to Air New Zealand.
Our focus is not only on the products we buy and the suppliers we partner with, but the deeper supply chain. Our Supplier Code of Conduct supports our commitment to advance social, environmental and ethical responsibility beyond just our own operations.
We're committed to increasing supplier diversity, and we monitor and report our progress each year. Find out more in our 2026 Annual Report.
