Rental cars Payment options

Pay Now rates are great for cost-effective car rentals, with a few important conditions to keep in mind:

• Pay Now means lower upfront prices, but cancellation fees* apply
• You can pay with Airpoints™ or a credit card
• No refund for unused time if you return the vehicle early
• Booking changes aren’t supported — you’ll need to cancel and rebook (cancellation fee applies*)

Flight disruption exception
If your Air New Zealand-booked flight is delayed, changed, or cancelled and this results in a rental car cancellation fee* or no-show fee* for a Pay Now booking, Avis or Budget will refund the fee. To request a refund, contact us.

Earning Airpoints 
When paying by credit card, both Pay Now and Pay Later rates earn 3 per rental day.

Paying with Airpoints 
Bookings paid for with Airpoints are ineligible for Airpoints earn. 

*Cancellation fees

• Cancellation at least 24 hours from scheduled pick-up time: NZD$86.25 (including GST)  | $75.00 AUD (excluding GST) 
• Cancellation within 24 hours of scheduled pick-up time: NZD$172.50 (including GST)  | $150 AUD (excluding GST) 
• No show: No refund. Full pre-paid amount will be forfeited

Maximise your flexibility with Pay Later rates.

• Pay Later bookings with Avis, Budget and Apex come with free cancellation, so you can change your plans at any time. If you choose to modify your booking, the rates available may change.
• Apex rentals are charged at vehicle collection.
• Avis and Budget rentals are charged after your car rental has ended. A hold will be placed on your card when you pick the car up, and released after you return it (please allow up to 7 days for your card issuer to process this). For bookings payable at the counter, the total shown in your confirmation email will be in the local currency of your destination (e.g. NZD for New Zealand, AUD for Australia).

You can use your Airpoints balance to pay for your rental car in full.
