Air New Zealand flies festive foodies to Wildfoods

Sixty-eight hungry foodies will leave Wellington for Hokitika on Saturday morning on a special chartered flight to the annual iconic Wildfoods Festival.
12 March 2021

The Grabaseatâ„¢ Hokitika Wildfoods Festival Flight will depart Wellington at 10:00am on Saturday 13 March, with the service returning the same day at 6:25pm. The flight will be operated by one of the airline's 68-seat ATR aircraft.

Flight and ticket packages were sold via Air New Zealand's Grabaseat website for $299 as a special package to draw Wellington food lovers to the region's hottest food festival.

Wildfood organiser, Andy Thompson, says the whole region is relieved the event is going ahead.

"We're stoked to be going ahead with the Wildfoods Festival, which is going to be bigger and better than ever. We've got some keen chefs cooking up culinary delights, big Kiwi acts and even a feral fashion show, with a great weather forecast to cap it off. We look forward to welcoming guests when they arrive in Hokitika this Saturday."

Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer, Leanne Geraghty, says the airline is proud to support the festival, which is one of the biggest events on the West Coast calendar.

"This festival is an absolute boomer for domestic tourism - boosting the local economy by $6.5 million and around 15,000 visitors. The West Coast has had a rough summer without the crowds of international visitors to our shores, so this foodie flight is Air New Zealand doing our bit to give Kiwis a taste of this iconic and unique festival."
