Services for the elderly

Air New Zealand is well known for taking good care of elderly customers who may sometimes need a little extra assistance.

If needed, a wheelchair is available for use between check-in and boarding the aircraft. This is especially useful in large international airports where customers may have to walk long distances from check in to the departure lounges. To ensure a wheelchair is readily available, it is advisable to request this service when you make your booking. During peak holiday periods Air New Zealand receives many requests for wheelchair assistance. As wheelchairs for customer use are limited, this may result in a waiting period for a wheelchair.

It is also possible to select your own seat via one of our Seat select options. Our seat maps show the layout of the aircraft and details of each seat including if a seat doesn't have a movable armrest. If you don't select a seat yourself our airport team will allocate you one on the day of travel. We suggest pre-selecting a seat before the day of travel. If you're unsure or wish to discuss specific seating requirements our contact centre team can help.

Staff can also provide additional assistance when arriving at your destination. Please discuss this with our check in staff or flight attendants and let us help make your travel easier.
