Readers voted Air New Zealand number one for its excellent service and staff. The award was announced at a ceremony in London overnight.

"This is a fantastic result and a great tribute to the hard work of staff across our network. The award not only reflects the in-flight experience that customers receive but also the efforts of everyone in the process of providing a uniquely Kiwi experience when they fly Air New Zealand," says Norm Thompson, Group General Manager Marketing, Network and Sales.

We will continue do this in a way that captures our uniqueness as the airline of New Zealand," Mr Thompson says.

From June next year, Air New Zealand is introducing new-look interiors that will feature a uniquely New Zealand theme and a new food and beverage service showcasing the best products the country has to offer through to informative in-flight programmes on local destinations and attractions.

Air New Zealand has already started to bring a touch of the new look to life.

Zambesi has been selected as the designer of the new staff uniform and Wanganui firm Tasman Tanning has been selected to supply the leather for the new premium seats in the long haul fleet. The company has also provided the leather for the seats in the A320s, which are operating on the Tasman and Pacific routes.

Cabin crew are being given destination training and reference materials, so they can better assist customers with queries on what to do and see in New Zealand.

The airline is also reviewing its sponsorship portfolio to ensure it is assisting with the promotion of great New Zealand endeavours, such as the Air New Zealand Fashion Week and Air New Zealand Wine Awards.

New Zealand was rated as the third best destination after Australia and Thailand.

Mr Thompson says Air New Zealand is committed to building a fresh, strongly differentiated airline.

"We would hope that in the future the airline's efforts continue to be recognised with similar prestigious awards as the one given to us by Conde Nast's UK readers."
