Air New Zealand has a strategic agreement with Cathay Pacific for flights between Auckland and Hong Kong.
This agreement does not include flights between Hong Kong and London.
Earning Airpoints Dollars™ and Status Points
On flights between Auckland and Hong Kong if you book an Air New Zealand flight with a NZ flight number (e.g. NZ80 or NZ4994), even if it is operated by Cathay Pacific, you will earn Airpoints Dollars™ based on the earning rates in the Air New Zealand flights section of the Airpoints Dollars and Status Points earning rates look up table^.
Similarly, you will also earn Status Points at the Air New Zealand rate for flights between Auckland and Hong Kong booked on Air New Zealand with a NZ flight number even if it is operated by Cathay Pacific.
The Air New Zealand Flight numbers operated by Cathay Pacific are:
- NZ4993, NZ4995 and NZ4991 Auckland to Hong Kong
- NZ4990 and NZ4994 Hong Kong to Auckland
If you travel on Cathay Pacific flight numbers (i.e. your ticket shows a Cathay Pacific flight number) between Auckland and Hong Kong you will earn Airpoints Dollars based on the earning rates in the Partner flights section of the Airpoints Dollars earning rates look up table^ and Cathay Pacific's eligible booking classes, and you will not receive any Status Points or Elite, Gold or Koru benefits. This applies to flight numbers CX107, CX108, CX197, CX198, CX7401, CX7402.
If you travel on any flight number that is not Cathay Pacific (CX) or Air New Zealand (NZ), e.g. your ticket shows BA4550, between Auckland and Hong Kong you will not be eligible to earn Airpoints Dollars.
If you travel on any other Cathay Pacific flight, including flights between Hong Kong and London, you will not earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points.
Spending Airpoints Dollars
You can spend your Airpoints Dollars to book any seat available for sale on an Air New Zealand numbered flight between Auckland and Hong Kong, even if this is operated by Cathay Pacific
Elite and Gold members can enjoy lounge access at the Air New Zealand lounge in Auckland or in Hong Kong in the Cathay Pacific Business class lounges when travelling on an Air New Zealand numbered flight between Auckland and Hong Kong.
Elite and Gold members can also access Cathay Pacific/Dragonair business class lounges in Hong Kong, Beijing or Shanghai when they connect to or from a Cathay Pacific or Dragonair flight to or from Beijing or Shanghai.
Koru members can use the Thai Airways business class lounge in Hong Kong when departing from Hong Kong to Auckland on either Air New Zealand or Cathay Pacific operated flights with an Air New Zealand ticket and flight number.
Lounge access is not available on Cathay Pacific operated flights between Hong Kong and London.
Other Gold and Elite Benefits
To receive Gold and Elite benefits when flying on a Cathay Pacific operated flight between Auckland and Hong Kong you must be booked on an Air New Zealand flight number.
Gold and Elite benefits are not available on any other Cathay Pacific operated flight.
Airpoints™ Elite and Gold members who book an Air New Zealand code share flight operated by Cathay Pacific will continue to receive the same (or materially similar) loyalty benefits to those that they usually receive on Air New Zealand operated flights. These benefits include:
- lounge access
- priority check-in
- priority boarding
- priority airport standby
- priority baggage
- extra baggage allowance (1 additional checked piece up to 23 kg)
- carry on allowance (2 carry on bags up to 7kg each)
- priority seating
Benefits offered by each airline when their members travel on their own marketed and operated flights may differ from the reciprocal benefits provided.
Please note that upgrades are only available on Air New Zealand operated flights.
