In Wellington, take a half-day tour to the film sites like the forests of Rivendell or the quarry used as Helms Deep in Rohan and Minas Tirith Gondor. In Queenstown, take a Safari of the Scenes to the forest realm of Lothlorein and Isendgard.
Collect your rental vehicle in Auckland and make your way to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Make your way from Auckland to Matamata, the home of The Hobbiton Movie Set. Start with a "Kiwi" barbecue lunch at the Shire's Rest Cafe then enjoy a tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of The Rings film trilogy. Complete your Kiwi style experience this evening with a Farm Stay. Enjoy a three-course hosted dinner featuring fresh New Zealand produce and complimentary wine or beer. A continental or cooked breakfast is also included.
After breakfast take a short drive to Rotorua, the geothermal wonderland that abounds with culture and history. This evening enjoy a cultural Maori experience and a hangi meal, a Maori tradition where meals are cooked beneath the surface of the earth. Learn about the Maori culture and enjoy a night’s entertainment of local singing and dancing.

From Rotorua, travel to Tongariro National Park and see the looming and foreboding volcanic landscapes that supplied the background for Mordor and Mount Doom. Have your own go at a Frodo-esque journey by trekking past the steaming vents and scorched lava-flow terrain on what's widely considered New Zealand's best one-day hike: the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (own expense).
Located just 40 minutes from Wellington lies an area of spectacular vistas, glorious sunsets, untouched forest and dramatic hillscapes, the Kapiti coast. Visit the Lord of the Rings potter and the LOTR Horses in Otaki or perhaps just relax on the beach and enjoy the scenery.
In Wellington, enjoy a half-day LOTR tour that takes you in to some of the locations used in the film, In your own time, make sure you visit the Weta Cave and make sure you allow time to visit Te Papa, the National Museum.
Leave your vehicle at Wellington Ferry terminal and take the scenic ferry across the Marlborough Sound. Upon arrival in Picton, collect your South Island vehicle and travel to Motueka, the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park.
Continue down to the West Coast and stop in Punakaiki, best known for its Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. Watch the spectacular West Coast sunset and explore one of the many unspoilt deserted beaches.
Further south is the Glacier country, where you have time to explore both Fox and Franz Glaciers before continuing to the adventure capital, Queenstown. Join a half-day tour that takes in recognizable film locations and stunning natural scenery. The Glenorchy Safari of the Scenes takes you from Queenstown to Glenorchy stopping at breath-taking viewpoints along the way. Follow the Dart River from Glenorchy to the spectacular filming location for Isengard offering stunning views of Mt Earnslaw. Travel to Paradise and discover the area used for the Forest of Lothlorien. On your return to Queenstown, stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp.
Discover Milford Sound, a world-renowned natural wonder. Nowhere else in Fiordland do the mountains stand so tall, straight out of the sea. Luxuriant rainforest clings to sheer rock walls and waterfalls tumble thousands of feet to the sea below. Enjoy a cruise on the Sound before returning to Queenstown.
