Overview
Completed in August 2005, Air New Zealand's newly-expanded international lounge in Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) allows passengers to relax and refresh while surrounded by a design based on the natural elements of New Zealand. The lounge, which doubles the available area to relax from 3800 to 7550 square feet, provides seating for 150 people and offers a range of "zones" to meet the diverse needs of today's international travelers.
Elements of New Zealand
New Zealand culture carries over into every aspect of the lounge, including the materials used to design the interior of the lounge itself. Highlights include:
- Building materials: From Paua laminate made from the inside of New Zealand's abalone shell, to Rimu wood veneer and carpet made from New Zealand wool, travelers will begin to experience New Zealand elements before they even board the plane.
- Art work: An artistic display of New Zealand culture is brought to life through the works of famous Kiwi artists. New Zealand's vibrant flora and fauna are depicted in various paintings and photographs - capturing the country's natural beauty.
- Skincare range: Available in the lounge bathrooms, travelers can experience unique New Zealand elements and indulge their senses with refreshing Living Nature skincare products. The rejuvenating products feature all natural preservatives derived from indigenous New Zealand ingredients.
- Food and wine selection: A wide selection of fresh food inspired by the unique flavors of New Zealand is offered daily in the lounge. Food offerings change throughout the course of the day to maintain variety for lingering passengers. A selection of New Zealand wines and beers is also available, as well as cocktails made with New Zealand-based 42 Below Vodka.
New Zones
Quiet Zone: Passengers wishing to read a book, magazine or newspapers can enjoy the lounge's dedicated "quiet zone," which also includes a library table with information about New Zealand.
Business Zone: For passengers who need to get that last piece of business completed before boarding their flight, the expanded business facilities include additional internet connections, a photocopier and a printer. The technology-savvy business center offers PCs at seven work stations, providing both dial-up and broadband internet access for laptops, with WI-FI access becoming available in the near future.
Family Zone: Keeping the young ones entertained is much easier in the dedicated play area for children, complete with interactive game consoles for those a bit older.
Refreshing Zone: Travelers can take advantage of six shower suites to refresh themselves prior to boarding the aircraft.
Relaxation Zone: For passengers connecting from another long-haul flight, comfortable seating arrangements have been made with custom recliners designed to encourage tired travelers to catch up on some sleep.
